Soybean farming is in high momentum in Nigeria but still the demand for this crop is more than the supply. The challenge is that most farmers are not ready to go for this crop and I want to assure you that after reading this guide you will fall for this crop.
Soya bean is grown as one of those complement crops to maize, beans, cassava etc. Meanwhile it deserves a much larger investment to provide the best capacity here in Nigeria. It is a crop that is highly proteinous in nature and has been used to produce different kinds of local Nigerian food.
I don’t know whether the fact that Nigeria is the highest producer of this crop has been driving us because we would have done better. We have good soils and adequate sites for the growth of Soybean but we are not taking our chances.
Soybean is one crop that can be consumed due to its high nutritional content. It is one crop that helps the other crops in the soil grow easily as well. You can also eat it for the fiber content which helps to improve the heart and improve circulation of blood. This is a product that can be converted to several products including Kunu, milk, Tofu and a list of other foods.
It seems I have been mouth watering about this crop. Well soon, you will learn about how to cultivate this soybean crop and earn from it before the end of the year.
Importance of Soybean Farming
Land selection and preparation: Soybean is one of those crops that can be grown on several kinds of soil and can adapt to several circumstances of the soil. However, this does not mean that they don’t prefer a particular area to another (Being versatile doesn’t mean they don’t have a comfort zone).
They grow very well in waterlogged, sandy soil with good drainage and a PH of 4 to 4.5. Soya beans have their comfort zone in regions of adequate rainfall and can also be planted with other crops. However, they should be planted on a large-scale basis.
After you have identified a particular site or land for your Soyabean, then they need to clear the soil. Remove all unwanted plants manually or mechanically. Make sure that the soil is free of debris, soft enough and water logged. You can also make ridges to make planting extremely simple. Also don’t forget to add manure to your soul to keep it growing faster.
2. Variety and seed selection : There are several varieties of Soybean which are affected by different factors. One of the most important factors to know is the rainfall pattern of the area. This is because areas with a high amount of rainfall require long mature varieties while it is the other way for areas with less amount of rainfall. You can only plant during the rainy season and the soybean must mature faster.

Some of the varieties include of Soybean
1. TGX1485 – 1D & TGX1904 – 6F:
This matures very fast and will require very little rainfall pattern to get the best out of it.
2. TGX1835 – 10E :
This requires low downpour to survive as well. It is very easy to do because it adapts to a lot of factors.
3. TGX1448 – 2E:
This can grow very well in low rainfall patterns and high rainfall patterns. It is also resistant to varieties of pest and disease, hence you should expect optimum yield.
Also when it comes to selection of seeds, you have to be very careful because this will affect your yields later on. Select healthy and viable seeds if a variety that you are sure will survive on your site. If you aren’t taking that down you might lose a lot of issues later on. Note that the serrated per hectare of land of a Soybean farm is about 50 kg to 60 kg.

Planting the Soybean
The next step and the most important step is tolerating your seeds. Your seeds should be planted appropriately and adequately to stay out of your yields later on.
If you want the best yields in your soyabean, start planting around the start of the rainy season which is about May. Also you have to jite that the required temperature during Planting should be about 15 to 20°C.
Also, planting should be carried out with inoculation. This allows for the assimilation of Nitrogen by the plants. It needs a lot of nitrogen and the best way to do this is by using Rhizobia to inoculate the soil. This is normal for all leguminous crops and you have to go all the way to do this for your soybean farm if you want to guarantee their survival.
Application of fertilizer, weddings and caring for your soybean
This should not be a difficult deal if you know what you are doing as a farmer. It is actually the normal agronomy but what you need to do is what you should put into this.
Also, you should keep animals like rabbits away from your farm because this is one of their most eaten foods. Remember it is a free world for the animals and they can eat anything they see which is nutritious for them.
Some which are the normal fertilized application which should be done appropriately With approximate 30kg P/haon your soil.
Remove unwanted crops from the farm. This might harbor pest and diseases and you should protect the soil from this.
Harvesting the Soybean
Your soya bean should be matured about 3 month after planting and harvest should resume immediately. Where you notice that about 90% of each pod has turned brown then shut it inside them should be out for harvest.
