He was born in St. John, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, on March 22, 1994. His parents are Igbo-descended Nigerian immigrants. As a child, he was not interested in rap music, but rather sports, and he desired to become a basketball player. Early in his adolescence, he was relatively well-liked due to his beautiful appearance and athleticism, which earned him a college scholarship.

Before transferring to Newman University, where he played defense for the Newman Jets of the National Basketball Association, he began his collegiate career at the University of Montana.
