How to Delete an eBay Account
Before you begin the account closure procedure, verify the following:
- You must have no outstanding balances with buyers, sellers, or the site itself. All fees must be paid, and your balance must be zero before you can close your account.
- You must have no unresolved suspensions or restrictions.
- You can’t be actively bidding on any items. If you are, either cancel those eBay bids or wait for the auction to end before deleting your account.
If you tick all of those boxes, you’re ready to delete your eBay account. Here are the steps to follow:
-
Go to the eBay homepage and log in to your account.
-
Go to My eBay, then select the Account tab.
-
Select the Close my account link from the right-hand side.
-
You are redirected to a help page that discourages you from carrying out your deletion request. However, if you are adamant about cancelling your account, continue with the procedures below.
If something about eBay or your account has been irritating you, it may be worthwhile to review the arbitration options.

-
You are then be asked to explain why it is you want to close your account. Use the drop-down menu to select your reason and, if prompted, select a more detailed reason.
-
Select Continue.
-
EBay may provide assistance to attempt to resolve the issue without closing your account. If you’re determined, select No, please close my account from the drop-down menu and then click Continue once more.
-
On the final page, review the information about closing your account. When you’re ready, check the box to confirm you’ve read everything and click Continue once more to confirm the deletion.
Your request to close your account is transmitted to eBay. Within twenty-four hours, you will receive an email confirmation to confirm receipt. If you haven’t used your account for buying or selling in the past 60 days, it will be closed within 30 days. If you have used the account within the past 60 days, it remains active.
During the grace period, you may change your mind at any time, but once the grace period expires, the account will be deleted. If you wish to resume using eBay, you must create a new account.
What Happens When I Delete My eBay Account?
When you initiate the process to delete your eBay account, the action is not immediate, but if you complete it, it is irreversible. You can no longer buy or sell on the site, you lose all feedback, and you lose your purchase and sales history — useful information if you forget when, where, or from whom you purchased an item.
Rather than deleting your eBay seller account, deactivate it by disabling your automatic payment options and canceling any active eBay subscriptions.
