Deyemi Okanlawon is a well-known Nigerian actor who works in theater, film, television, and voiceover. He is well known for his parts in the TV shows Gidi Up and An African City. He has also played the lead in the films If Tomorrow Comes and Road to Yesterday, in addition to making cameos in various Nigerian music videos, including “No Be You” by Waje and “Soldier” by Falz The Bahd Guy.
Deyemi Okanlawon’s Biography
Okanlawon was born in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, to Adeyemi Okanlawon, an aircraft engineer, and Adeyinka Okanlawon, a baker and businessman. He attended Taikenny Nursery and Primary School in Lagos for his primary education and the International School in Lagos for his secondary education. Then, he attended the University of Lagos in Lagos, Nigeria, to study Chemical Engineering. He was a former baker, sales and marketing professional, and holder of a Certificate in Film Acting from the New York Film Academy.
Okanlawon made his acting debut at the age of 5, when he starred in a “end-of-year” play in elementary school. At age nine, Okanlawon starred alongside Kunle Bamtefa in a widely syndicated television commercial. Okanlawon became an active member of the drama groups Gf(x) (Harvesters Company), Xtreme Reaction, and Snapshots while at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Before making his feature film debut in the 2010 film ZR-7, Okanlawon starred in the short film “A Grain of Wheat.” In 2012, he was well-known for his many appearances in made-for-the-internet short films and web series, such as Blink, 6:30pm, and Knock Knock. Since switching to acting full-time in 2013, he has over 50 film credits, 8 stage credits, and has appeared in television commercials for OLX and GLO as well as music videos for Waje and Aramide. He has also had significant roles in films such as Greg Odutayo’s “Beyond Blood” with Joseph Benjamin and Kehinde Bankole, Pascal Amanfo’s If Tomorrow Never Comes with Yvonne Nelson, Ishaya Bako’s Road To Yesterday with Genevieve Nnaji and Majid Michel, and Pascal Amanfo’s No Man’s Land with Adjetey Anang. He starred alongside OC Ukeje, Titilope Sonuga, Sotikele Iyamah, and Joke Silva in the NdaniTV series Gidi Up. In addition, he has appeared in the television series Taste Of Love, Lekki Wives, An African City, and Dowry.
In 2013, he won the award for Best Actor in a Short Film at the In-Short film festival for his portrayal of a psychotic husband in the suspense film Blink.
