Eedris Abdulkareem Biography

In Kano State, Nigeria, Eedris Turayo Abdulkareem Ajenifuja was born to a large family; his father is from Ilesha, Osun State, and his mother is from Ogun State. He spent his boyhood in Kano, where he claimed Kano State as his home state. He had eight brothers, and they all lived together, but his father passed away when he was only two.

Abdulkareem was a member of the hip-hop group The from 1997 until their separation in 2002. He continues to perform as a solo musician and in 2002 published the album P.A.S.S. (“Pains And Stress = Success”). Its song “Wackawickee MCs” leveled serious accusations against Tony Tetuila, Plantashun Boiz, and Double X Posse. Later the same year, he published the album Mr. Lecturer. Its title track incensed college and university students in Nigeria who received higher scores in exchange for money and sex.

Eedris Abdulkareem Jaga Jaga

In 2004, Abdulkareem released his third album, titled “Jaga Jaga” (a Yoruba name for a shambles), which condemned corruption and Nigerian events. President Olusegun Obasanjo banned the title tune from radio, but it continued to be played in nightclubs. The album cover was designed by Lemi Ghariokwu, who is well-known for designing numerous album covers for Fela Kuti.

Abdulkareem published his personal record company, La Kreem Music, and released his fourth album, Letter to Mr. President, in November 2005. The album’s title track harshly addressed Obasanjo’s criticisms of “Jaga Jaga”; the album also featured “Flash Up Unu Lighter,” a tribute to Stella Obasanjo, who died while undergoing surgery in Spain, as well as the victims of the October 2005 Bellview Airlines crash.

The renowned singer boasted about his hit song ‘Jaga Jaga,’ claiming that it will endure forever in the hearts and minds of Nigerians, unlike the three-month-long songs that contemporary musicians have been releasing recently.

In a recent interview, the controversial artist LIB stated, “Music must have significance and be able to bring value to the lives of humans; it cannot only be about dance and booty shaking.”

“The average lifespan of a song that is exclusively about dance and shaking booty is three to four months. This is often why we should always have classic songs on hand.

“I released ‘Jaga Jaga’ 15 years ago, and it’s still in circulation; it’s timeless.”

Eediris published the sequel to “Jaga Jaga” in January 2012, during the height of the Occupy Nigeria movement against the removal of gasoline subsidy.

He has also appeared on numerous tracks by numerous artists, including “Bad Guy Baller” with Mode 9 and VTEK and a track by Oba Mmega.
