How to Delete Your Instagram Account
Instagram is one of the most popular and addictive social media platforms available. If you wish to reduce your Instagram usage, you may always deactivate or cancel your account.
Deleting your Instagram account is permanent, however deactivating it is temporary and allows you to log back in at a later time.
You can delete or deactivate your Instagram account using a desktop or mobile computer browser. iPhone users can even cancel their Instagram account using the app.
This is how to go about it.
How to delete your Instagram on desktop
To delete your Instagram account on desktop:
- Go to the Instagram website and log in to your account.
- Click on your profile icon at the top right of the screen.
- Click on the “Edit Profile” button.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Temporarily disable my account” link.
- Choose a reason for why you want to disable your account from the drop-down menu.
- Re-enter your password to confirm.
- Click on the “Temporarily Disable Account” button.
Keep in mind that if you temporarily disable your account, your profile, photos, comments, and likes will be hidden until you reactivate it by logging back in. If you want to permanently delete your account, you will need to contact Instagram’s customer support team and request that they delete it for you.
How to delete Instagram on iOS
To delete your Instagram account on an iOS device, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app on your device.
- Tap on your profile picture in the bottom right corner to go to your profile.
- Tap on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner of your profile.
- Tap on “Settings” in the menu that appears.
- Scroll down and tap on “Help Center” at the bottom of the list.
- Tap on “Managing Your Account” in the list of options.
- Tap on “Deleting Your Account” in the list of options.
- Tap on “How do I delete my account?”
- Tap on “How do I permanently delete my account?”
- Tap on “Learn how to delete your account” to be directed to the account deletion page.
- Follow the prompts to delete your account.
Please note that once you delete your account, it is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. If you want to temporarily disable your account instead, you can do so by going to the “Account Privacy” section of the settings menu and selecting “Temporarily disable my account.” This will allow you to reactivate your account at a later time.
How to delete Instagram on Android
To delete your Instagram account on an Android device, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app on your Android device.
- Tap on your profile icon in the bottom right corner to go to your profile.
- Tap on the three vertical dots in the top right corner to open the options menu.
- Tap on “Settings” in the options menu.
- Scroll down and tap on “Account”.
- Tap on “Delete Your Account”.
- Tap on “Permanently delete my account”.
- Enter your Instagram password and tap on “Yes, I want to delete my account”.
Please note that once you delete your account, all your photos, comments, and likes will be permanently removed, and you will not be able to reactivate your account.
If you don’t want to delete your account, but just want to log out of your account, you can do so by going to the “Account” section in the settings and tapping on “Log Out”. This will log you out of your account, but your account and all its content will still be preserved.
How to deactivate your Instagram account temporarily
To deactivate your Instagram account temporarily:
- Open the Instagram app on your device.
- Tap on your profile icon in the bottom right corner.
- Tap on the three vertical lines in the top right corner of your profile page.
- Tap on “Settings” from the menu.
- Scroll down and tap on “Account”.
- Tap on “Temporarily disable my account” in the bottom right corner.
- Select a reason for deactivating your account from the drop-down menu.
- Re-enter your password to confirm.
- Tap on “Temporarily Disable Account” to deactivate your account.
Note: When you deactivate your account, your profile, photos, comments, and likes will be hidden until you reactivate it by logging back in. If you decide to reactivate your account, all of your previously shared content will be restored.
