She competed in the Miss Niger Delta pageant, where she earned the position of first runner-up. She was born and reared in Port Harcourt. Uranta made her acting debut in the 2000 film named Girls Hostel. In 2006, she gained widespread recognition for her major part in the Nollywood film Secret Mission. She has appeared in numerous films, including Love Doctor, Critical Passion, Pradah, Secret Shadow, and Blood Game, among others.
In addition to being an actress, Uranta also manages a film production firm under her own name. She started the Mary Uranta Foundation, a charity that aids and enhances the lives of disadvantaged children in Opobo. Uranta was born a Pentecostal Christian, although she attended Roman Catholic schools including Sacred Heart Nursery And Primary School and Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School in Port Harcourt. There, she developed an interest in both dancing and stage acting, and upon graduation, she would receive a Dance and Drama scholarship.
Uranta was admitted to Rivers State University of Science and Technology in the future ( RSUST). She was inspired to enroll in a course relevant to her dream profession (acting), but she ultimately studied Secretarial Administration. She also placed second in the Miss Niger Delta competition.
Uranta’s acting career began with a small role in the film Girls Hostel, directed by Ndubisi Okoh, alongside Uche Jombo. She was cast in the part following her first film audition. Before taking a pause to complete her schooling, Uranta appeared in films such as Paul and Silas, War of Roses, Silver Spoon, and Church Committee. Uranta’s major break came in 2006, when she played Ngozi Ezeonu’s younger sister in the film Secret Mission. Tea or Coffee, Tears of a Princess, Baits of Doom, The Professionals, Real Passion, Mistress, The Darkest Link, Love Doctor, Critical Passion, Pradah, Secret Shadow, and Blood Game are among her further Nollywood flicks.
Mary Uranta has a postgraduate diploma in Theatre (a discipline of the performing arts) from the London School of Arts Academyi in the United Kingdom. Uranta received the African Youth Ambassador Award for her contributions to Nollywood in October 2011. The following year, she was nominated for a Best of Nollywood Award for her performance in the film Mistress, and on 14 July 2013 at the 4th City People Awards, she received the City People Award for Best Actress.
